Justice PC Ghose Commission Submits Report on Kaleshwaram to Telangana Govt
A sealed copy of the report, in three volumes, was handed over to principal secretary of the irrigation department Rahul Bojja by Justice PC Ghose at the commission’s office.
Hyderabad: The Justice P.C. Ghose commission of inquiry into the Kaleshwaram barrages of Medigadda, Sundilla and Annaram on Thursday submitted a sealed report of nearly 650 pages to the government. Only two copies of the report are known to exist.
Justice PC Ghose handed over the report, in three volumes, to principal secretary, irrigation, Rahul Bojja at the commission’s office, bringing the curtains down on a year-long inquiry into various acts of omission and commission that may have contributed to the current plight of the barrages.
After handing over the report, Justice Ghose said it was now up to the state government to reveal to the public what it contained. He said that the work of the commission was complete and that he would be heading back to Kolkata on August 1.
Bojja said the report will be submitted to the government in the sealed condition as received from the commission.
The Congress had for long blamed the then BRS government, former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, then irrigation minister T. Harish Rao of responsible for haphazard planning of the Kaleshwaram scheme, and alleging that the project was mired in corruption.
The Congress government has said that it had held back on taking action on anyone in the matter as it was awaiting the Justice Ghose report. It remains to be seen when the government study the report, and what action it will take based on the commission’s findings, and against whom.
The government is in receipt of a report from the Vigilance & Enforcement wing on the Medigadda barrage and reasons that led to its partial collapse. Based on its findings, the government has initiated some investigations into senior irrigation department officials including probes by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
With the Justice Ghose commission report, the government has all the documents it said it was waiting for to fix responsibility for the failures related to the barrages, and take action against such individuals, and the contracting agencies Navayuga, Afcons, and L&T if they were found as also being responsible for the problems at the barrages.
