Jumbo Feast For Elephants On World Elephant Day

NZP deputy curator J. Muralidhar said that with the help of animal keepers, the feed store and the zoo kitchen staff, jumbo cakes have been prepared and served to all elephants.

Hyderabad: Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) in Hyderabad celebrated World Elephant Day on Wednesday by treating its elephants Vanaja, Asha, Sita and Vijay to a lavish spread of fresh fruits, vegetables and specially made 5-kg cakes.

Elephants were taken out of their enclosure and walked for around 5 Km within the zoo premises. For all its jumbo residents, a special jumbo feast has been served in the form of cakes of approximately 5 Kgs for each elephant, comprising fruits, vegetables and cooked rice.

NZP deputy curator J. Muralidhar said that with the help of animal keepers, the feed store and the zoo kitchen staff, jumbo cakes have been prepared and served to all elephants.

Visitors were allowed closer to the animals. Facts and their importance in the ecosystem were shared with them.
