Job Melas Can Build Interface Between Unemployed Youth, Job Market: Uttam
Unemployment among educated youth was one of the serious problems facing society, particularly the young people in rural areas: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy
NALGONDA: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has called for a strong and sustained interface between educated unemployed youth and major industries in Telangana, saying the disconnect between rural talent and organised employment opportunities should be addressed systematically.
He was speaking at a preparatory meeting for the Mega Job Mela to be held at Kodad in Suryapet district on September 19. Representatives of companies, more than 100 educational institutions and officials attended the meeting at the district Collectorate in Suryapet.
Uttam Kumar said unemployment among educated youth was one of the serious problems facing society, particularly the young people in rural areas. If rural youth could not reach up to major companies, the companies should be brought closer to them, he said.
He said parents had told him that they spent heavily on educating their children but suitable jobs were not coming their way. The problem was particularly acute in rural areas.
The solution, he said, is to create an organised mechanism to bring industry closer to rural youth instead of leaving unemployed youngsters to individually approach corporate recruiters.
The Kodad Mega Job Mela was being organised as a common recruitment platform where industry demand would directly meet rural talent, enabling qualified youngsters to interact with multiple employers and compete for jobs under one roof.
Around 300 companies had been invited to participate in the job mela. Major companies from Hyderabad and other industrial centres, besides industries operating across the erstwhile Nalgonda district, were being mobilised.
The minister asked industries department officials to personally follow up with employers and ensure maximum corporate participation. The recruitment initiative is being coordinated by the Telangana government, the industries department and the Singareni Collieries.
Uttam Kumar appealed to elected representatives, political leaders, panchayat secretaries and village- and mandal-level officials to identify unemployed youth in their respective areas, inform them about the mela and encourage them to utilise the opportunity.
Kodad MLA Uttam Padmavathi, Thungathurthy MLA Mandula Samel, MLC Kethavath Shankar Naik, Suryapet district collector Tejas Pawar and SP Narasimha were present.
