HYDERABAD: The Jeedimetla Smart Grid Pilot Project, taken up by TGSPDCL with Central government support, aims to provide consumers transparent billing, reliable supply and better‑quality services through advanced metering and automated distribution networks, according to Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil.

Sanctioned by the Union ministry of power, the project covers 11,904 consumers in Jeedimetla and Shapurnagar sections under the Ranga Reddy North Circle. It has a final approved cost of ₹29.86 crore, with the Centre releasing a 50 per cent grant of ₹14.93 crore in 2022‑23, and the remaining share borne by TGSPDCL.

Under the project, 8,882 single‑phase smart meters have been installed, of which 8,331 are operational — 5,412 in Jeedimetla and 2,919 in Shapurnagar. The distribution network has been automated with 66 auto‑reclosers, 79 sectionalizers, 54 ring main units and 31 fault passage indicators on 11 kV feeders, besides transformer monitoring units and consumer display units. Officials said these systems help identify faults, isolate affected sections and restore supply quickly through alternative feeders, reducing outage duration and inconvenience.

Patil on Monday visited Apurupa Colony in Shapur Nagar and inspected the functioning of smart meters and the automation system. He enquired about meter performance, consumption tracking, billing and issues faced by consumers.

He clarified that the primary objective of smart meters was not merely to increase utility revenue, but to provide transparent, reliable and quality services. Smart meters enable consumers to monitor daily and hourly consumption, identify periods of high usage and understand changes in their bills.

TGSPDCL will also launch a dedicated mobile application for smart‑meter consumers in November 2026, offering daily consumption details, three‑month consumption history, estimated bills and outage alerts.

Patil, along with director (Projects and IT) V. Shivaji and GHMC officials, also inspected progress of free‑left development works around KBR Park. The team reviewed works at Agersen Junction, Filmnagar Junction, Journalist Colony, Road Nos. 36 and 45, and Jubilee Hills Check Post. The CMD said TGSPDCL was working closely with GHMC to resolve pending issues and complete the works early to improve traffic flow.
