Jannaram Panchayat Secretary Held in Rs.13,000 Bribe Case
The Panchayat Secretary demanded the bribe to accord permission for construction of a house and for allotment of house number to the newly constructed house at Lingayipalli village
Hyderabad: The sleuths of Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested J. Varalaxmi, Panchayat Secretary of Lingayipalli village in Jannaram mandal in Mancherial district, when she demanded and accepted illegal gratification of Rs.13,000 from the complainant for doing an official favour.
She demanded the bribe to accord permission for construction of a house and for allotment of house number to the newly constructed house at Lingayipalli village. Initially, she demanded Rs.20,000 from the complainant. Subsequently, after negotiation, she agreed to accept Rs.13,000 as illegal gratification.
During the trap, she did not accept the bribe amount in cash and instead instructed the complainant to transfer the agreed amount of Rs.13,000 through PhonePe. She provided the PhonePe number of another Panchayat Secretary, Lavanya, and accordingly, the complainant transferred Rs.13,000 to the said PhonePe account, thereby completing the acceptance of illegal gratification.
The demand and the subsequent instruction to make the payment through PhonePe were also recorded, providing relevant evidence regarding the demand and acceptance of illegal gratification.
The details of the complainant are being withheld for security reasons.
