“It is a national representative survey that provides a system level reflection on effectiveness of school education,” Jangaon District Education Officer D Bojanna told Deccan Chronicle on Friday.

He explained the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan, which is also called as the National Achievement Survey (NAS) is typically conducted every three years to assess students’ learning levels in various subjects depending on their class in selected schools.

The NAS-2024 report offered an in-depth insight into students' learning levels, infrastructure conditions, and school effectiveness, helping identify both strengths and areas needing improvement. The survey was conducted in selected schools on December 4, 2024 in 781 districts across the country under the guidance of PARAKH, NCERT, evaluates the baseline performance in the development of competencies of students at the end of the foundational, preparatory, and middle stages at the district level for Grades III, VI and IX respectively.

The subjects assessed include languages, mathematics, environmental studies with additional subjects for higher classes. The survey enabled to measure learning outcomes, evaluate educational policies and enhance the teaching learning process in schools across the country. It provided an accurate reflection of student performance, allowing for targeted interventions that cater to the diverse learning needs of children across geographies, socio-economic backgrounds and linguistic diversities.

Bojanna said Jangaon district demonstrated remarkable success in the assessment and its results reflect a strong foundation in early literacy, as well as above-average competencies in preparatory and middle stages. At the grade III, the district students showed outstanding performance in foundational stage competencies while at the grade VI they outperformed State and national averages across all subjects and at grade IX the students continued to perform above average in all subjects.

To achieve successful results in the assessment, a structured and practical plan was formulated and implemented under the guidance of district Collector Rizwanbasha Shaik along with a team of education department officials. All of them, together as a team, articulated various plans from July-2024 and worked with dedication to achieve learning outcomes among the students with a goal-oriented focus and for them to achieve good performance in NAS-2024.
