Jangaon Collector Advises Farmers to Procure Quality Farm Inputs at Seed Melas
He urged farmers to complete their crop registration process without delay
Jangaon: Jangaon district collector Sandeep Kumar Jha on Tuesday urged farmers to take advantage of seed melas being organised in all mandals from June 23 to June 30 to procure certified quality seeds and agricultural inputs for the upcoming Kharif season.
Inaugurating a Seed Mela at the Rythu Vedika in Narmetta mandal, Jha said the agriculture department had made extensive arrangements to provide certified seeds at reasonable prices under one roof. He said the melas are offering a range of paddy, pulse, oil and vegetable seeds, besides agricultural inputs, such as nano urea and DAP.
He advised farmers to purchase only certified seeds. He stressed on the importance of scientific application of fertilisers to maintain soil health. He cautioned farmers against excessive use of urea, particularly during drought-like conditions, as it could affect soil fertility.
The collector directed the agriculture department officials to ensure that adequate stocks of urea are available in villages to meet the farmers’ requirements. He urged farmers to complete their crop registration process without delay.
Jha highlighted the importance of quality seeds for better productivity. He advised farmers not to purchase seeds from unauthorised dealers. He asked them to obtain bills for all seed purchases to facilitate resolution of any future disputes. He wanted cultivators to select crops based on their soil type, water availability, and climatic conditions.
Referring to climate change and erratic rainfall patterns, the collector called for awareness programmes on short-duration and drought-tolerant crop varieties. He said crop diversification could help improve farmers’ economic stability.
Reiterating that farmers’ welfare remains the government’s priority, he directed officials to ensure uninterrupted availability of quality seeds and timely agricultural guidance. He said adoption of scientific farming methods could help increase productivity while reducing cultivation costs
Later, as part of the Vana Mahotsavam programme, Jha planted saplings at the Rythu Vedika premises. He visited the Women Farmers’ Service Centre, reviewed its functioning and sales activities.
Those who attended the Seed Mela included district agriculture officer Ambika Soni and sarpanch Sridhar Goud.
