Investment Frauds Account For 60% Of Telangana Cybercrime Losses
TGCSB director Shikha Goel said cybercrime complaints across India increased by 24 per cent in 2025, while Telangana recorded a three per cent decline.
Hyderabad: Stock trading and business investment frauds account for nearly 60 per cent of the financial losses suffered by cybercrime victims, making them a major focus of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau’s (TGCSB) statewide awareness campaign. The figures were highlighted during the ‘Suraksha Ka Tiranga – Towards a Cyber Independent Telangana’ programme organised by TGCSB in Hyderabad ahead of Independence Day. The campaign was to promote vigilance, informed online decisions and safe digital practices among citizens.
DGP C.V. Anand said an alert and informed citizen remained the strongest defence against cybercrime and urged people to pause and verify before sharing money or personal information. Citizens could report cyber fraud to the police through 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
TGCSB director Shikha Goel said cybercrime complaints across India increased by 24 per cent in 2025, while Telangana recorded a three per cent decline. Financial losses in the state fell by 20.2 per cent, compared with a three per cent reduction nationally. During the first half of 2026, complaints in Telangana declined by 10.2 per cent and financial losses by 26.8 per cent. The proportion of funds put on hold increased from 21 to 29 per cent.
Telangana also secured the top rank nationally in the PRAGATI review, which assesses states on nine cybercrime performance parameters, including the use of platforms such as Samanvaya, Sahyog, the Money Recovery Module and Grievance Redressal Module. Goel urged victims to report fraud during the ‘Golden Hour’ to improve the chances of recovering money.
