The scheme will facilitate the construction of houses in four phases, with beneficiaries — who already possess house plots — receiving funds through a green channel to ensure timely disbursement.
Khammam: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, announced on Friday that sanctioning for Indiramma houses will begin on Sri Rama Navami, April 6. Speaking at the inauguration of a paddy procurement centre in Badulabanda, Nelakondapally mandal, Khammam district, the minister confirmed that the selection of beneficiaries for the first phase would be conducted impartially, irrespective of political affiliation.
The scheme will facilitate the construction of houses in four phases, with beneficiaries — who already possess house plots — receiving funds through a green channel to ensure timely disbursement. Each beneficiary is slated to receive Rs 5 lakh for the construction of their new home.
In a related development, minister Srinivas Reddy cautioned millers against reducing paddy quantities under the pretext of husk removal. He warned that any discrepancy, even as little as 500 grams, would lead to strict legal action, including filing cases that could result in jail sentences.
Addressing concerns over the state's finances, Srinivas Reddy reaffirmed the Congress government's commitment to fulfilling its poll promises despite the financial challenges posed by Rs 7 lakh crore in loans incurred by the previous BRS administration. He noted that funds were being allocated both for welfare schemes and for servicing these loans.
Additionally, the minister announced that a Rs 500 bonus per quintal would be paid to farmers for premium variety paddy during the current Yasangi crop season. He recalled that similar bonuses had already been credited to farmers' bank accounts during the monsoon season.
Srinivas Reddy also highlighted the recent launch of a fine rice supply initiative for ration cardholders, initiated on Ugadi. Recipients have expressed satisfaction, noting that the quality of rice matches that of premium brands.
Concluding his address, the minister emphasised that welfare measures — such as free power for domestic connections (up to 200 units), complimentary travel for women on TGSRTC buses, LPG cylinder refills at Rs 500, and the fine rice scheme — are significantly alleviating the financial burden on poor families and paving the way for broader economic growth.
Earlier in the day, minister Srinivas Reddy laid the foundation stone for a 33/11 KV sub-station at Ananthanagar in Nelakonapally mandal.
