Indiramma Houses Aim to Make Telangana a Huts-Free State: Ponguleti

Nalgonda: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Thursday stated that the sole aim of Indiramma houses is to ensure that not a single poor family in the state lives in a thatched hut. “Every eligible family will be provided a pucca house,” he assured.

Laying the foundation stone for gravel road and a culvert on the Mangayya Banjara-Ganugapadu road at Mangayya Banjara village, the minister said although the previous BRS government had left Telangana with a debt of ₹8.21 lakh crore, the Congress government has been effectively implementing welfare and development programmes after coming to power.

Total seven lakh Indiramma houses have been sanctioned to the eligible in the first and second phase of the scheme. Of these, one lakh houses have been sanctioned for Hyderabad city alone. Ponguleti exuded confidence that Telangana would emerge as a huts free state in the next two years.

Further, he pointed out that the Congress government has filled 72,000 vacant posts within a short span of two-and-a-half years. A notification has been released to fill up another 16,000 jobs. The government is committed to empower women with ₹70,000 crore interest-free loans sanctioned to self-help groups. In addition, the state government is providing free travel facility to women in TGSRTC buses, he underlined.

The minister reiterated that the state government is according high priority for creating infrastructure in rural areas, including CC roads, internal roads, culverts, drinking water facilities, and other amenities.
