Indian Heritage Shines At Gorintaku Mahotsavam
Gorintaku Mahotsavam celebrated with cultural fervour
KARIMNAGAR: Students, staff and teachers came together to celebrate the Gorintaku Mahotsavam at Sri Saraswathi Shishu Mandir High School for Girls in Karimnagar on Tuesday. The event featured beautiful gorintaku (henna) designs and underscored the significance of Indian culture.
During the celebration, principal Samudrala Rajamouli remarked that the mahotsavam is a joyful event embraced by women of all ages, merging tradition, beauty and community, while emphasising the importance of customs and values. It is a common belief that applying gorintaku on the hands and legs during the ashadam season can bring prosperity, health and wealth.
"This initiative aims to educate students about Hindu culture and traditions and to inspire them to honour the rich heritage of the country. The Shishu Mandir school consistently leads efforts to organise such events to foster good manners and respect for culture among the younger generation," Rajamouli said.
Academic coordinator Hanumandla Shailaja explained that applying henna during the monsoon season helps protect the skin from harmful bacteria. She also stated that henna application alleviates stress and helps relax the body by providing a cooling effect on the nerves.
Shailaja further mentioned a cultural belief that when young girls and married women apply gorintaku and their hands turn deep red, it signifies that they will be cherished by their loved ones and husbands.
