Hyderabad: The union government on Wednesday flagged off the first UK-bound export consignments from here, marking the launch of the India-UK trade pact. India and the UK on Wednesday operationalised a free trade agreement under which a host of domestic goods will enter the British market at zero duty.

The Department of Commerce organised the flag-off ceremony of export consignments to mark the entry into force of the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
Telangana Special Secretary, Krishna Aditya, inaugurated the ceremony in the presence of National Turmeric Board Director Bhavani Sri, and Sampath Kumar, Additional Director General of Foreign Trade (Telangana), and other dignitaries, PIB said in a post on 'X'.
"#Telangana is poised to gain significantly from the India-UK CETA. With strengths in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food processing and electronics, the State is well placed to expand its footprint in the UK market. Today's export flag-offs mark the beginning of many new opportunities," it said.
Bhavani Sri said the flag-off of export consignments to the UK reflects India's growing global trade partnerships.
As the India-UK CETA comes into force, exporters from Telangana-from food processing to manufacturing-are set to access new markets and expand their global presence, she said.
Sampath Kumar stated that the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement has significantly reduced tariffs on a wide range of products, with several items now attracting zero tariffs.
He described the agreement as a major opportunity and a "game changer" for Indian exporters, enabling them to enhance exports and strengthen their presence in the United Kingdom market, the PIB .
For Telangana, the India–UK CETA opens new opportunities in textiles, pharmaceuticals, agri-products, aerospace, defence and advanced manufacturing. The agreement will help exporters strengthen global value chains and expand their presence in the UK market, said Siddharth Viswanathan, Head of Trade and Investment, UK High Commission, Telangana.
