Hyderabad: Calling out drunk drivers who invoke “imaginary sections” of law, Hyderabad police chief V.C. Sajjanar on Wednesday issued a sharp, humorous warning underscoring Hyderabad Police’s zero-tolerance stance on driving under the influence.

In a viral post, Sajjanar said Indian law has no Sections 123 or 567, cautioning motorists against attempting late-night “legal lectures” while intoxicated. He listed the real outcomes of drunk driving: instant internet fame across WhatsApp groups and Instagram, vehicles being seized and sent to detention yards, a reality check from actual lawyers citing real sections of law, and a bruised ego with no scope for appeal.

“Fiction books are fun. Drinks are fun—responsibly. Drunk driving and pretending to be a legal genius at midnight? Not fun,” he said, reiterating that Hyderabad Police will enforce strict action against offenders.

Summing it up in a colloquial appeal, Sajjanar advised: “Miyaa, drink kiya? Toh steering ko salaam bolke cab pakdo.” He urged citizens to choose cabs over cars after drinking and to prioritise road safety this New Year.
