IIT-H Launches Nuke Training Programme

Called ANUGYAN – Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP), the three‑month residential course began on Monday with participants from engineering institutions, public sector organisations and industry.

Hyderabad:The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT‑H), in partnership with Crimson Energy Experts Pvt. Ltd. (CEEPL), has launched what it described as the country’s first industry‑academia programme dedicated to training engineers for the civil nuclear energy sector.

Called ANUGYAN – Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP), the three‑month residential course began on Monday with participants from engineering institutions, public sector organisations and industry. The programme comes as India plans to expand nuclear power generation capacity from about 8.8 GWe to 100 GWe by 2047, increasing demand for specialised professionals.

The curriculum combines classroom learning with practical industry training and covers reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation shielding, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), nuclear safety, quality assurance, engineering design, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) compliance and simulator‑based training.

Participants who complete the course will receive a joint certification from IIT Hyderabad and Crimson Energy Experts.

Prof. B. S. Murty, director of IIT Hyderabad, said the programme was intended to prepare engineers for India’s expanding civil nuclear sector by combining academic training with industry experience. “As the country expands its civil nuclear programme, building a highly skilled workforce becomes increasingly important,” he said.

Cmde R. D. Mane (Retd.), president of the Nuclear Division at Crimson Energy Experts, said the programme would focus on practical aspects of nuclear engineering, including regulatory compliance, equipment design and quality assurance. He said participants would also study emerging technologies such as Small Modular Reactors and floating nuclear power plants, with training delivered by professionals who have worked at institutions including BARC and NPCIL.

The programme builds on an MoU signed earlier this year between IIT‑H, Dassault Systèmes and Crimson Energy Experts to establish the Centre of Design Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (CODENE), aimed at advancing research, design and digital simulation in the nuclear sector.
