HYDERABAD: HYDRAA said it had deployed two-wheeler borne teams of the Disaster Response Force for emergency response during heavy rain in the city. The teams are expected to reach the affected spots quickly and help clear roads and restore normalcy, in areas where larger rescue vehicles cannot reach quickly.

HYDRAA has deployed 20 motorcycles, with 60 personnel working in three shifts round the clock. Officials said that the bike teams were launched by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy last year, and were being used more extensively during the rainy season.

Each motorcycle is equipped with battery-operated chainsaws, ropes and other emergency tools. The teams are trained to remove fallen trees, cut branches blocking roads and assist in clearing waterlogged areas. Their ability to move through heavy traffic allows them to reach affected locations much faster than larger DRF vehicles.

Officials said that on Friday night, bike teams responded to multiple incidents across the city, and the two-wheeler teams will now serve as rapid-response units, working alongside disaster response and monsoon emergency teams (MET) to minimise disruptions during severe weather conditions.
