HYDRAA to Restore Saroornagar Lake
Ranganath said medicinal plants will be planted around the lake and new parks will be developed in nearby areas in addition to the existing Indira Priyadarshini Park.
Hyderabad: As a measure to control floods in the area, Saroornagar Lake will be restored and developed, said HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, after inspecting the area on Wednesday. Development proposals will be submitted to the government and works will begin by March, he added.
Ranganath clarified that no action would be taken against the residential settlements that have come up in course of time. He promised that the developmental works would be carried out only on the remaining lake area of over 90 acres.
The commissioner said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had directed to restore the major lakes in the city and Saroornagar is one among them. The lake will be developed on similar lines to Bathukamma Kunta, Bamrukn-ud-daula and Kukatpally Nalla Cheruvu. The works will include removing 10-15 sq. feet of silt, enhancing water storage capacity and clearing the inlets and outlets to make it effective for flood control.
Ranganath said medicinal plants will be planted around the lake and new parks will be developed in nearby areas in addition to the existing Indira Priyadarshini Park.
