HYDERABAD: Stormwater drains, catch pits across Hyderabad are being cleaned regularly to reduce flooding during rains. HYDRAA’s disaster response force (DRF) and monsoon emergency teams (MET) are working round the clock to clear them.
These teams are now using dry weather to carry out cleaning operations more effectively.
The change is visible in many areas. The drains that were once blocked are now clean and open, water is flowing better.
Truckloads of mud and garbage are being taken out from drains and catch pits. In some places, drains were fully blocked. In Brindavan Colony in Alwal, plastic and waste were removed from a culvert and now rainwater is flowing freely. In the Balkapur nala, years of mud and waste are being cleaned.
Similar cleaning is happening in areas like Hakimpet, Hafiz Baba Nagar, Ayesha Masjid Road and Sabaz Colony near Tolichowki and at LB Nagar crossroads, drains near Sai Sadan Complex and Vivekananda Colony are being cleared.
In Indira Nagar, Shivaram Pally, the cleaned mud is being taken away in trucks. In Borabanda’s Peddamma Nagar, roads used to flood during rain but now the water is flowing smoothly. At Kudikunta lake outlet near Botanical Garden Road in Kondapur garbage blocking the outlet was cleared so that water can flow out easily.
