HYDRAA Protects ₹1.10 L Cr Worth Of Public Land From Encroachments
Major drive reclaims lakes, nalas and public spaces
Hyderabad: HYDRAA has protected public land worth an estimated ₹1.10 lakh crore from encroachments since its inception. Authorities said the agency has reclaimed more than 1,800 acres of government land and 449 acres of lake land since it was formed in July 2024.
According to revenue records, a total of 2,435.22 acres of government land, lake beds, drain lines, park lands and public utility lands have been reclaimed and protected by HYDRAA.
Of the total area reclaimed, 1,804.23 acres comprise government land, including about 300 acres in Quthbullapur of Medchal-Malkajgiri district, 862 acres in Ameenpur, and lands in Kachavani Singaram in Ghatkesar, Khanamet and Kondapur in Serilingampally, among other locations.
Authorities said encroachments were removed from 90.29 acres of park land, 50.06 acres of roads and footpaths, 21.29 acres of public utility land, and 19.26 acres of drain lines and canals, all of which are now under protection.
The agency also cleared encroachments from 449.11 acres of lake land. As part of Phase-I of its lake restoration programme, HYDRAA took up the rejuvenation of Thammidikunta in Madhapur, Nalla Cheruvu in Uppal, Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally, Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur, Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla in the Old City, and Bathukammakunta in Amberpet.
Officials said Phase-I operations led to the removal of encroachments from 15 acres of Thammidikunta, 14 acres of Kukatpally Nalla Cheruvu, 10 acres of Uppal Nalla Cheruvu, 15 acres of Sunnam Cheruvu, 11 acres of Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla and 5 acres of Bathukammakunta, protecting a total of 70 acres of lake land.
In addition, Phase-II rejuvenation plans covering 14 lakes across the city have already resulted in the removal of encroachments from nearly 300 acres of lake land.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said, “In nearly two years, HYDRAA has reclaimed and protected public assets worth more than ₹1.10 lakh crore, including lakes, nalas, parks and government lands. Within another year, we are confident of crossing the ₹2 lakh crore milestone.”
