Hyderabad: HYDRAA on Tuesday demolished illegal constructions raised by Sandhya Conventions owner S. Sridhar Rao on land belonging to the Fertiliser Corporation of India Employees’ Cooperative Housing Society in Gachibowli, bringing relief to plot-owners who spent several years running around government offices to retrieve their property from encroachment.

HYDRAA officials razed Sandhya Convention’s mini convention hall, a G+2 iron shed structure, 10 restrooms and kitchen structures. They also demolished the iron fencing around the encroached land and archways. HYDRAA stated that Sridhar Rao encroached upon land and plots of the FCI housing society’s layout, and had built illegal constructions on it property.

The Housing society layout was established in 1980 on 20 acres of land with 162 plots. Plot-owners complained to HYDRAA at a Prajavani programme that Sandhya Convention owner Sridhar Rao had erased the layouts.

They alleged that he removed the layouts of roads and parklands, and has raised structures for commercial activities. When they questioned the company personnel, residents complained, they were attacked. Some of their plot owners had died by suicide as their property was taken over; at least one victim is stated to be ready to lodge a formal complaint.

HYDRAA officials stated that after receiving the complaint, they conducted investigations into the layout and found out that several structures raised on the property did not have any permission. Based on the orders of HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, authorities rased the structures, fencing and arches around the area. HYDRAA officials were accompanied by the law and order police, and faced no resistance from Sridhar Rao’s personnel.

HYDRAA also stated that several other landowners, from not only the city but from across the globe, had filed complaints against Sridhar Rao.

Authorities stated that a woman from Delhi filed a complaint online that her husband died by suicide, after Sridhar Rao and his henchmen claimed that their plot as not existent. She said that she would come to Hyderabad and file a complaint directly.

HYDRAA said that some complainants alleged that Sridhar Rao was now allowing them to go into their layouts, others complained that he was getting development agreements signed without their involvement and raising illegal structures.
