Hyderabad's Restored Lakes To Be Venues For Sankranthi Kite Celebrations

Hyderabad: Lakes restored in city are set to become vibrant venues for the Sankranthi Kite festival from January 13 to 15, with the state government planning celebrations near water bodies developed by HYDRAA. On Wednesday, agency commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected the development works at Thammidikunta in Madhapur and Nallacheruvu in Kukatpally and directed officials to develop them into tourist spots.
He directed officials to ensure that only water treated from sewage treatment plants flows into the lakes. He said HYDRAA would work in coordination with the GHMC and tourism officials to maintain a clean environment and to provide amenities for public.
HYDRAA noted that the Bathukamma festival was celebrated at the Bathukammakunta in Amberpet. Sankranti would be celebrated at the lake as well as at Thammidikunta in Madhapur, Nallacheruvu in Kukatpally and Bam-rukn,ud-Daula in the Old City.
