Hyderabad SUV crash: Driver, owner arrested
Hyderabad: In connection with the hit-and-run accident at Banjara Hills Road No. 10 near Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital that resulted in the death of a man and also left two injured, the police arrested the driver and the owner of the vehicle on Monday.
“The SUV driver Sanket Srinivas and the owner of the vehicle S. Harshavardhan were arrested and produced before the court,” sub-inspector Banjara Hills K. Ramesh said.
It may be recalled that the accident occurred on January 25 where a 35-year-old man died on the spot while two suffered grievous injuries after a speeding SUV ran over a pavement where the victims were sleeping.
The person who died on the spot is yet to be identified whereas the other injured have been identified as G. Raju and M. Srinivas from Karnataka. “The incident occurred when the SUV, reportedly speeding, first hit the road divider before zipping into the footpath, where the victims were sleeping. Srinivas suffered critical injuries and he is undergoing a spine surgery at OGH,” the sub-inspector said.
“We have collected the blood samples of the driver and sent it to FSL to confirm whether he was drunk while driving. We also found that he has no driving license,” Ramesh added.
The vehicle has been seized and police booked cases of culpable homicide, endangering public safety, rash and negligent driving causing death under 105 (2) and 125 A of the BNS Act against the driver.
