Hyderabad: SPDCL Staff Fix Storm Damage Overnight
Power supply restored overnight amid storm damage
Hyderabad: The staff of the southern discom restored power overnight, replacing damaged electric poles and transformers after heavy rain lashed the city on Thursday, said chairman and managing director Musharraf Faruqui on Friday and appreciated their services.
According to an SPDCL statement, Faruqui said continuous rainfall from Thursday afternoon until midnight caused trees and branches to fall on power lines, leading to pole and transformer collapses and widespread power disruptions. Field staff worked tirelessly through the night to restore supply.
In Greater Hyderabad, the storm damaged 57 poles and 44 distribution transformers across multiple circles, with Hyderabad Central suffering the most damage, where 23 poles and seven transformers were affected. Other affected areas included Hyderabad South (15 poles and 11 transformers), Secunderabad (five transformers), Saroornagar (three poles and 14 transformers), and Habsiguda (seven poles, seven transformers).
Faruqui noted a significant improvement in the responsiveness of field staff, who remained in the field during the emergency, overseeing restoration efforts and inspecting substations. Despite strong winds hampering operations, power was restored swiftly. Commending the staff for their dedication, he urged them to maintain the same level of commitment in future emergencies to ensure uninterrupted service to consumers.
