Hyderabad: Prayers, Charity, Shopping, Joy Mark Christmas Eve
Hyderabad: On Christmas Eve, Hyderabad was radiating with festive cheer, blending faith, generosity, and merriment. Churches across the city are finalising plans for their special services, while bustling markets and charity drives ensure that the joy of the season reaches everyone.
Among the churches preparing for grand celebrations, Hope UC Church came out with its Christmas Eve services on Tuesday evening, scheduled at 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm with the band singing the top favourite carols.
Known for its vibrant community and uplifting atmosphere, the church has planned an evening of soulful music, prayer, and messages of hope. Families and individuals from across the city attend the service, soaking in the true spirit of the season. “Christmas is about love and giving,” said a member of the church choir, which has been practising carols for weeks to make the services memorable.
Other churches, such as St. Joseph’s Cathedral and St. Mary’s Basilica, are also gearing up for midnight masses and morning services. These iconic churches, adorned with twinkling lights and nativity scenes, are ready to welcome thousands of worshippers.
The city’s markets are a sight to behold as residents indulge in last-minute Christmas shopping.
From the bustling lanes of Abids to the glittering malls in Banjara Hills, people are on a spree to pick up festive essentials. Fairy lights, stars, and Christmas trees are flying off the shelves, while bakeries are packed with customers ordering plum cakes and cookies. Local shops in Mozamjahi Market are seeing a surge in demand for decorations, including wreaths, bells, and nativity sets. “It’s chaotic but so joyful,” said a shopper balancing a stack of wrapped gifts.
Malls like GVK One and Inorbit have rolled out massive holiday sales, offering discounts on everything from winter wear to home décor. For food lovers, stalls selling roasted nuts, hot chocolate, and spiced plum cake have become the centre of attraction, bringing festive flavours to life.
This Christmas, Hyderabad’s community spirit shines brighter than ever. A group of 15 cyclists recently visited an orphanage in Secunderabad to celebrate with over 60 children. They distributed cakes, pencils, and small gifts, bringing smiles to young faces. One participant shared, “Sometimes we throw away money without realising how small gestures can light up someone’s world. This experience reminds us to be grateful for what we have.”
Charity is not limited to human connections this season. Several of them organised a unique event, donating rice bags, clothes, and pet products to dog shelters in Bachupally and Bowrampet. Volunteers also geared up to visit Jeeva Vatsalya Dog Shelter and Breath Dog Shelter on Christmas Day, spreading joy to their furry friends.
Homes across the city are aglow with twinkling lights, while the aroma of freshly baked treats fills the air. Families are busy preparing for Christmas feasts, featuring dishes ranging from biryanis to traditional roasts and puddings. Communities are organising carol nights and street plays, bringing neighbours together in celebration.
As Hyderabad embraces the festive spirit, there’s something for everyone this Christmas. Whether it’s attending a meaningful church service, indulging in festive shopping, or giving back to the community, the season’s magic is truly in the air.
