Hyderabad: As part of the month-long Operation Muskan, the police rescued 7,678 children in Telangana, including ten from Nepal. Of these, 2,479 were rescued by Rachakonda police and 1,247 — including 74 girls — by the Hyderabad city police.

On Friday, Women Safety Wing director Charu Sinha said the operation targeted vulnerable locations based on crime analysis, including unregulated industrial units, brick kilns and areas where children were found working illegally. Police teams rescued children from bonded labour, begging rackets and other exploitative environments.

The majority of rescues took place at railway and bus stations, religious sites, traffic junctions, mechanic shops, construction sites, shops, tea stalls and footpaths.

“Of the 7,678 rescued children, hundreds were from other states like Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan,” said the director. She also noted that 2,600 migrant children have now been enrolled in the state’s 29 urban residential schools, also known as bridge schools.
