Hyderabad Police Crack Toddler's Killing Case, Father Held
Akbar informed the police that he killed his son due to frequent family disputes
Hyderabad: Special teams from Bandlaguda police on Tuesday cracked the sensational case of the missing 3-year-old boy, Mohammed Anas, with the arrest of his father, Mohammed Akbar, 35. According to police, Akbar confessed during interrogation that he killed his son in the early hours of September 15 and later dumped the body in the Musi River from Nayapul bridge to destroy evidence.
DCP (south east zone) S. Chaitanya Kumar told Deccan Chronicle that, “Based on legal opinion, the case has been altered from kidnapping to murder and causing disappearance of evidence under the relevant provisions of law.”
The case was initially registered on September 13 at around 10.30 am following a complaint by Akbar’s wife, Sana Begum, who reported that her younger son had gone missing. Based on her statement, the police first booked a kidnapping case against Akbar.
“During the investigation, suspicion grew over his conduct. On sustained interrogation, Akbar admitted that due to frequent family disputes and out of anger, he killed his son and disposed of his body,” Chaitanya said.
On the strength of his confession and technical evidence, including CCTV footage, police confirmed Akbar’s involvement in the crime. A search operation is underway with the help of Disaster Response Force (DRF) and HYDRAA teams to recover the body.
Police said Akbar had earlier been involved in a murder case under the Narsingi police station limits, where a woman was killed after resisting his sexual advances.
City police commissioner C.V. Anand commended DCP Chaitanya Kumar, ACP A. Sudhakar (Chandrayangutta), SHO R. Devender, detective inspector B. Srinivasa Rao and their team for swift detection and arrest.
