Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough, city police cracked a theft case at a prominent liquor businessman's residence in Banjara Hills and traced the accused to Goa, where he was found gambling at a casino and was taken into custody.

As per reports, the accused, identified as Gauresh, was a native of Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. He was working as a junior artist in films and was staying at Indira Nagar in Banjara Hills.
Four days before the arrest, gold ornaments weighing around ten tolas were stolen from the businessman's home in Banjara Hills. The businessman lodged a complaint with the police, following which a case was registered.
The Hyderabad Police checked the CCTV footage around the area where the house was burgled and also kept a close watch on the movements of habitual offenders. During this process, they spotted a suspect with a distinctive scar on his eyebrow captured on CCTV cameras, which ultimately led them to Gauresh. Police also discovered that he had previously been named as an accused in a theft case in Madhapur.
According to police, Gauresh had been carrying out these thefts for quick, easy money to fund his lavish lifestyle. He had already sold off a portion of the stolen gold and flew to Goa, where he was eventually caught while enjoying himself at a casino. The remaining gold and cash recovered from him were seized. Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining stolen jewellery and cash, and to determine whether Gauresh was involved in any other similar cases across the city.
He was subsequently brought back to Hyderabad by the Crime Branch police on Tuesday for further investigation.
