Hyderabad: In a major operational breakthrough, the Hyderabad city police—through a joint operation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT - Nepal Gang) and the Jubilee Hills Police—have busted a notorious international gang from Nepal, apprehending four members, including a woman accomplice.

The gang was responsible for the sensational 'murder-for-gain' of a retired IPS officer's wife at Jubilee Hills. The arrested have been identified as Dharma Tiruwa alias Kalpana alias Bhimla Bhishwakarma (26), Ganesh B.K. alias Ganesh Bishwakarma (31), Chandra Bahadur Tamang alias Ranjeet Thapa (44) and Ganesh Bahadur Shahi (37), all natives of Nepal.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said a brutal murder-for-gain occurred at Prashasan Nagar on the intervening night of May 7 and 8. The victim was Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Ray Vinay Ranjan.

The next day, the victim’s daughter lodged a complaint stating that her mother was found dead in her bedroom with her hands tied and a cloth stuffed into her mouth. The bedroom was completely ransacked, wardrobes were broken open, and valuables were found missing.

The domestic maid, Dharma was found absconding, and her mobile phone was switched off. During the investigation, it was established that the accused persons criminally trespassed into the house with common intention, smothered the victim to death, and decamped with 225 grams of gold jewellery and other valuables.

Initially, the Jubilee Hills police, in coordination with the Task Force and CCS teams, analyzed extensive CCTV footage to track the entry and exit movements of the suspects. Based on CDR analysis and technical leads, police teams conducted Pan-India searches.

Consequently, on May 22, the Task Force teams apprehended a prime accused, Sunil Bahadur Aauji alias Sunil Pariyar, along with the receiver, Dilip Bahadur Mijar alias Sonar, and recovered 26 grams of the stolen property from their possession.

In view of the rising property offenses committed by Nepali gangs across the three Police Commissionerates of Telangana State, the Hyderabad police constituted a dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 19.

The team comprised one Inspector, two Sub-Inspectors, and 16 personnel, drawing expertise from both field operations and technical analysis. The SIT functioned under the overall supervision of Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, and was led on the ground by G.S. Daniel Shanti Kumar, Inspector of Police, IT Cell, Hyderabad.

Following sustained efforts, round-the-clock technical surveillance, and continuous tracking of the suspects across states, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended four key absconding accused near Nampally Railway Station on Monday.

The police also seized incriminating material and net cash of Rs.51,130 from their possession.
