One killed, two injured after speeding car runs over them on footpath
Hyderabad:A man died and two others sustained grievous injuries when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed into a footpath where they were taking shelter on the roadside opposite a cancer hospital on Banjara Hills Road No. 10 in around 1.15 am on Saturday.
The driver who said to be speeding and lost control and ran the vehicle over the three before ramming into the KBR boundary. All those in the car fled from the scene.
“On being informed, we went to the spot, shifted the body to the morgue and admitted the injured in OGH,” Banjara Hills sub-inspector K. Ramesh told Deccan Chronicle.
The deceased, aged between 35 and 40 years, and the two injured remain unidentified, he said.
“The three have been sleeping on the footpath every night for the last few weeks,” said M. Parvathamma, who runs a kiosk on the opposite side of the road.
Police identified the vehicle owner through the registration number TS-16-FD-0111, which registered in the name of S. Harsha Vardhan, a jeweller from Kummargally in Nizamabad town.
Special teams have managed to collect three mobile numbers, including of the driver, who switched off his phone after the accident, police sources said.
Police registered a case of causing death by rash and negligent driving and damaging government property.
