Hyderabad: With the aim of improving traffic management, addressing monsoon-related issues and strengthening public safety, city authorities held a high-level convergence meeting on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar and attended by GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, Traffic Joint Commissioner Joel Davis, HMWS&SB managing director Ashok Reddy and Cyberabad Joint Commissioner Dr Gajarao Bhupal.

During the meeting, officials directed that road repair works and junction improvements be expedited to ease congestion at major crossings. They stressed the need to focus on waterlogging during the monsoon season and agreed to strengthen drainage systems. It was also decided that the robotic cleaning method earlier implemented in Malakpet would be extended to other waterlogging-prone areas across the city.

Infrastructure-related measures were also discussed, including proposals to relocate bus stops that cause traffic bottlenecks, remove Sulabh complexes constructed on road medians, and build foot overbridges to ensure safer pedestrian movement.

To tackle the rising number of vehicles, officials decided to expand multi-level parking facilities and introduce a Multi-level Parking App to help motorists locate nearby parking spaces easily.

Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Sajjanar welcomed the revival of coordination meetings among departments, stating that effective cooperation between the police and civic agencies was essential to deliver better services to citizens.

GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan said additional powers and budgets would be delegated to field-level officers to speed up works. He added that many issues could be resolved through regular field inspections and by categorising problems into short-, medium- and long-term solutions for quicker resolution.

Officials also underscored the need to remove footpath encroachments, regulate auto parking at major junctions, ensure proper restoration after road digging, and improve sewerage and drainage infrastructure.
