Hyderabad: A Hyderabad‑based man was shot dead while delivering a pizza in the United States in the early hours of Friday. The victim, identified as 28‑year‑old Anshul Kuncha, was working as a pizza delivery driver in Philadelphia when the incident took place.
Anshul, a resident of Gundlapochampally, was employed in North and West Philadelphia. According to Philadelphia police, the shooting occurred shortly after 12.30 am at the Raymond Rosen Homes housing complex on Edgeley Street in North Philadelphia. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found Anshul lying unresponsive in a courtyard with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Philadelphia Police Department’s chief inspector Scott Small said Anshul had been assigned to deliver a pizza order to an apartment in the housing complex, but police later discovered that the address listed for the delivery was a vacant unit. Detectives recovered three spent shell casings near the victim, suggesting the attacker was standing very close when the shots were fired. Inside the vacant apartment, officers found three pizza boxes and a delivery bag. The food appeared untouched, leading investigators to believe that Anshul had successfully completed the delivery before being shot outside.
Police traced the order to Pete’s Pizza, where Anshul was employed as a delivery driver. His vehicle was also found near the shooting site with a pizza warmer still inside.
The Philadelphia Housing Authority’s surveillance cameras in the area captured part of the incident. According to investigators, the footage shows Anshul walking with the pizza boxes while being followed by two individuals dressed in dark clothing, one of whom appeared to be carrying a dark backpack. Although the actual shooting was not captured on camera, police believe the footage could provide important leads. Authorities have identified the phone number used to place the order and are continuing their investigation.
