Hyderabad: A 55-year-old man was allegedly killed and his teenage son critically injured in an attack in the Old City, after the victim objected to a youth allegedly harassing his daughter.
The incident took place on Thursday evening in Bagh-e-Jahara, under the limits of Madannapet police station. According to police, the victim, Hasmat Ali Khan, confronted a youth identified as Mohammed Hameed alias Habeed (27) and warned him against harassing his daughter. Mohammedan, who was unemployed, was harassing the girl in the name of marriage, and the father objected to it. In a pre-planned attack, Habeed allegedly barged into Hasmat's house in Bagh-e-Jahara armed with a knife and stabbed him multiple times. Hasmat's 16-year-old son, Omar Ali Khan (16), reportedly tried to intervene and stop the attacker, but was also stabbed in the assault.
Omar's condition is said to be critical, and he is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU at Osmania General Hospital (OGH). The accused reportedly fled the scene on a motorbike after the attack.
Madannapet police, along with a CLUES forensic team, rushed to the crime scene and collected evidence. Two special teams have reportedly been formed to track down the accused. SHO K Chandra Sekhar said police are examining CCTV camera footage from roads connecting the area to trace the suspect's movements and establish the sequence of events, adding that the accused would be arrested soon.
A case of murder and attempted murder has been registered. The victim's body has been shifted to the OGH mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
