Hyderabad: A 27-year-old engineer from the City, Mohammed Jaber Hussain, was found dead at his shared accommodation in Lowell, Massachusetts, on September 15, just 18 days after his wedding.

Hussain was reported dead by his roommate on September 14. Hussain did not come out of his room on the morning of September 15, prompting his flatmates to knock on the door. When there was no response, they called the police, who found him unresponsive in bed. He apparently suffered a massive cardiac arrest in his sleep. However, the family is awaiting official reports from authorities.

Family members said they had spoken to him just hours before his death and are now awaiting clarity on whether he received medical aid and the exact cause of death. Hussain, who hailed from Santosh Nagar, went to the US to pursue higher studies in 2021, later started working in Massachusetts and married a family friend’s daughter from Gujarat on August 28 this year in Texas, where the woman livedaccording to his father, Zakir Hussain.

MBT spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan, who shared the letter, urged the Centre to intervene on humanitarian grounds. Jaber is survived by his parents and a sister, and the family comes from an economically weak background and cannot afford the cost of repatriating the body. In a letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, he sought the Indian consulate’s help to expedite the process.
