HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Traffic Police, in coordination with Langer House police, apprehended a 37‑year‑old man for allegedly using a fake number plate on his two‑wheeler to evade traffic challans, resulting in penalties being wrongly generated against an innocent vehicle owner.
The accused was identified as Shaik Ali, a cashier at a petrol pump and resident of Naya Qila in Golconda.4
According to officials, during vehicle inspections it was found that Shaik Ali had allegedly affixed a fake registration number plate, TS07JC1670, to his Honda Activa with the intention of misleading enforcement authorities and avoiding penalties for traffic violations.
Police said the fake registration number belonged to another Honda Activa owned by Anup Kumar Gupta, a resident of Tirumala Hills, Puppalaguda. Due to the alleged misuse, traffic challans generated for violations committed by the accused were wrongly issued to Gupta’s vehicle.
Following investigation, Langer House police registered a criminal case under relevant BNS sections and the Motor Vehicles Act.
During further investigation, officials traced the original registration number of the accused’s vehicle as TS09EMTR5835.
Traffic police warned that using fake, tampered or identical number plates is a serious offence and said violators would face strict legal action. Officials added that CCTV surveillance and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras were being used to detect such violations across the city.
