Hyderabad: Hyderabad‑based Research Centre Imarat (RCI) played a key role in the successful salvo launch of two indigenously developed Pralay missiles, test‑fired in quick succession from the same launcher off the Odisha coast on December 31, 2025.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said the launches, conducted around 10.30 am as part of user evaluation trials, met all mission objectives. Both missiles followed the intended trajectory and achieved the required parameters, confirmed by tracking sensors deployed at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha. Terminal events were validated through telemetry systems installed onboard a ship near the impact area.

Pralay is a solid‑propellant, quasi‑ballistic missile equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems to ensure precision. It is capable of carrying different types of warheads to engage a range of targets.

The system was developed by RCI in collaboration with multiple DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research and Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Research and Development Establishment (Engineers) and the Integrated Test Range.

Missile systems for the trials were integrated by Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, with support from other Indian industry partners. Senior DRDO scientists, representatives of the Indian Air Force and Army, and industry officials witnessed the tests.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the armed forces, defence public sector undertakings and industry partners and said the salvo test established the reliability of the Pralay missile system. DRDO chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat said the successful trials indicated the system’s readiness for induction into the armed forces.
