Hyderabad: JNTUH Students Seek 24-Hour Library, Upgraded Sports Facilities
Their demands include a clean and safe running track, long jump, high jump and shot put facilities.
Hyderabad: Students preparing for competitive and recruitment examinations at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) have sought round‑the‑clock access to the Central Library and upgraded sports facilities on campus.
The university said additional infrastructure was already being put in place.
Members of the Students Protection Forum (SPF) submitted a representation at the registrar’s office on Saturday. Registrar Prof. Askani Jayalakshmi was reportedly unavailable.
Student leaders Durga Prasad and Sagar Naik said hundreds of students were preparing for Telangana Police sub‑inspector and constable recruitment examinations, Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and other competitive tests.
They sought 24‑hour library access, books and previous question papers, and material covering reasoning, aptitude, general studies and current affairs.
“With police recruitment involving Physical Efficiency Tests (PET), we sought better facilities on the university ground so candidates would not have to train outside campus.
Our demands include a clean and safe running track, long jump, high jump and shot put facilities,” Durga Prasad told Deccan Chronicle.
University management said infrastructure was being added keeping in view career opportunities where physical fitness is important. Students were being sensitised to Armed Forces opportunities through National Cadet Corps (NCC) certification, with the Army Wing already raised and Navy and Air Force Wings to follow.
An open gym has been installed near the Sports Complex, while another is being developed near the University Grants Commission (UGC) Auditorium.
On the library demand, officials said functioning was being closely monitored to improve utility, while considering online repositories such as the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) and Open Access Theses and Dissertations (OATD).
Students urged registrar Prof. Jayalakshmi and Vice Chancellor Prof. T.K.K. Reddy to consider the demands and provide the facilities at the earliest.
