Hyderabad: Fire Erupts in Alpine Heights at Somajiguda

Hyderabad: All residents were evacuated unhurt after a fire broke out on the sixth floor of the eight-storey Alpine Heights apartments in Somajiguda on Sunday evening, when cooking gas exploded at a flat, police said. Hearteningly, fire personnel rescued a pet dog.

Pictures from the scene showed an LPG cylinder having a hole. It was not clear if that was caused by the explosion of the gas, or whether it caused the leak.

According to Hyderabad district fire officer (DFP) Y. Prabhakar Reddy, the fire broke out at 5.35 pm in the B-506 apartment of the building. On receiving information, fire personnel rushed four fire tenders to the building.

“The building has ample space. We evacuated the inmates from the building and tripped the electricity supply from the main transformer to prevent any danger,” DFO Prabhakar Reddy said.

Fire personnel ran up the stairs to the fire-hit sixth floor. “By that time, the flat owner Aliaka Mathur and her daughter had managed to escape. Their pet dog was trapped in the balcony. Four firefighters rescued the dog safely and handed it to its owner,” Prabhakar Reddy said.

He said the kitchen and hall of the fire-struck house were gutted. “Our firefighters took control over the fire by 7.15 pm,” the DFO added,

According to B. Madhusudhan Reddy, who resides nearby, they heard a loud sound and then saw huge thick dark smoke coming out of the building. They informed the building watchman and alerted the police and fire officials who responded quickly.

There was a traffic jam on the road connecting Raj Bhavan to Khairatabad, where the building is located. Traffic cops were deployed to regulate traffic.

The fire report said the building consisted of a cellar ground and seven floors, each with six flats and a penthouse with three flats, “Fire completely extinguished .. no casualties reported and one dog saved,” the report said.

Senior police officials visited the scene and a case of fire accident has been booked CLUES Teams, local police and fire department officials began a joint probe. The preliminary report said the fire was caused due to the leakage of cooking gas from a pipe.
