Hyderabad: The Treasure Hunt Hyderabad trend has become a real menace for people. Several Instagram handles run this trend showing an anonymous user uploading a video of him putting money in an envelope, and throwing it in a corner of the road. The later part of the video shows the landmark. These videos are attracting attention from across the city.

In a video on handle @treasurehunthyderabad, a user hides three, four currency notes of ₹100 denomination at a visible place opposite DMart in Annojiguda.
The white envelope carries the user’s id along with the Instagram logo. The handle is known to be followed by around 22.3K people.

On Tuesday, a man, featured in a video, was found hiding cash on the ORR while asking people to hunt it down under Ghatkesar police station limits. A case was registered against him under Section 125 and 292 of the BNS and he was arrested.

When looked up on Instagram, there were over 100 posts related to the trend, with over five such accounts. On an account handle treasurehuntcentral, the user hid the envelope at a window of the Famous Ice Cream parlour.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Telangana DGP Dr Jitendra said, “We have also learnt of this. We know for a fact that the intent is only to fool people and gain attention. Whenever we come across such incidents, we register cases and take appropriate action based on the section attracted.”

Speaking about surveillance and awareness, the DGP said, “After we register a case against any such person, we constantly keep monitoring them to make sure it never happens. We advise everyone to not fall for this foolishness and especially suggest the youth to not rely on such stunts to gain public attention.”

Speaking of the laws enforced for this menace, DCP Balanagar said that sections pertaining to public nuisance and traffic congestion would be applicable in such cases.
