Hyderabad: A police constable working at Meerpet Police Station was arrested on Saturday for misappropriating gold and cash seized in a dowry harassment case.

According to Meerpet Inspector Shobhan, the accused constable Shravan, who was working in the police department for six years, allegedly took 12 tolas of gold that police had seized during the investigation and stored at the station. Without raising any suspicion, he managed to pawned the gold and obtained around Rs 12 lakh.
Police also found that Shravan misused a mobile phone seized in the same case. Using the financial details on the device, he transferred Rs 1.70 lakh to his own bank account and to the accounts of his relatives.
The matter came to light after the victims noticed money missing from their account and approached the police. An internal inquiry then confirmed that both the seized gold and cash had been misappropriated. A case was registered on the 27th of this month, and the constable was arrested and sent to remand. Police are investigating further.
