Hyderabad: Cong. Govt Neglecting Farmers: NRR
Responsibility for estimating yields and sending procurement intent to the Centre lies squarely with the state government: N. Ramchander Rao
HYDERABAD: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress government of neglecting farmers’ interests, alleging slow and inadequate grain procurement that is forcing cultivators to sell below the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and risking crop loss at market yards from rains.
Speaking to media at Yadagirigutta in Bhongir district, Rao said his party’s visits to procurement centres last month revealed severe delays and a lack of response from millers and that procurement activity only picked up after BJP MPs, MLAs, MLCs and workers staged protests.
Rao criticised the state for failing to honour pre-poll promises to purchase grain “down to the very last grain,” and said responsibility for estimating yields and sending procurement intent to the Centre lies squarely with the state government.
He noted that the Central government has carried out large-scale procurement nationally and in Telangana too, and called it “unacceptable” for the state to level false accusations against Delhi while not fulfilling its own duties on warehousing, transportation and registration of stocks.
Rao also accused the Revanth Reddy administration of failing to attract new investment, clear pension arrears of retired employees and implement Rythu Bharosa properly. He alleged delayed salaries for government employees, lack of jobs for youth and non-implementation of the Congress’ six guarantees and declarations from Warangal, Khammam and Hyderabad. Rao claimed growing public perception that Telangana has emerged as an “ATM” for the Congress and warned that failure to deliver guarantees could provoke rural revolt.
On infrastructure, he said the Centre was willing to co-operate on MMTS and Metro expansions if the state fulfils its share, including sending proper DPRs and taking up land acquisition.
Rao accused Congress and BRS of converging on key policies and engaging in mutual protection at the time of elections, while affirming the BJP has no electoral understanding and will continue its campaign for farmers and state development.
