Hyderabad: The state government is planning to introduce a car‑pooling app in Hyderabad and has sent a transport department delegation to Maharashtra to study the module.
Officials will examine the project in Pune and Mumbai, where car‑pooling has gained traction.
Transport department sources said Hyderabad has a large number of single‑occupancy vehicles, which add to traffic congestion. The IT corridors witness more than 10,000 solo commuters per hour, leading to gridlocks.

Despite repeated pushes from the Cyberabad Traffic Police, car‑pooling has struggled to take off in Hyderabad. Officials hope that studying the Maharashtra model will help adapt the system to local conditions.
