Hyderabad: The Hyderabad district Congress committee (DCC) will organise a three-day 'MGNREGA Bachao Sangram Yatra' from January 24 to 26. It will highlight the party’s resistance to what it calls the ‘systematic dismantling’ of the constitutional right to work.
Speaking to media at Gandhi Bhavan DCC president Khalid Saifullah informed that the yatra would be launched at 10 am on Friday at Charminar and would conclude on Republic Day at Malakpet TV Tower. Each day, the yatra will cover three to four municipal divisions under the Charminar, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Chandrayangutta, and Malakpet Assembly constituencies.
Khalid Saifullah, along with Assembly in-charges including Rajesh Kumar (Bahadurpura), Boya Nagesh (Chandrayangutta), Mujeebullah Shareef (Charminar), met PCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday to seek formal approval. “The yatra’s goal was to expose how the Modi Government is weakening MGNREGA, which has long been a lifeline for India’s rural poor. The yatra would also serve as a platform to engage with citizens, especially youth and daily-wage workers, and explain how policy changes are affecting rural livelihoods,” he added.
