The Hyderabad Public School (HPS) on Saturday felicitated alumnus Prem Watsa, chairman of Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited and a member of the Class of 1965, and laid the foundation stone for a new Junior School Block to be named after his father and former HPS principal M.C. Watsa.

M.C. Watsa served as principal of HPS from 1969 to 1972. The school said the naming of the new block recognised his contribution and the Watsa family’s long association with the institution.

Gusti J. Noria, president of The Hyderabad Public School Society, welcomed Prem Watsa and Nalini Watsa and said the occasion connected generations of the Watsa family with generations of HPS students.

“By naming our new Junior School Block after M.C. Watsa, we honour a former principal whose contribution remains part of the school’s story,” Noria said. He added that the new facility would serve future students and give younger learners space to explore, question and discover.

Prem Watsa said returning to HPS was always special and that his years at the school had played an important role in his life.

“Having the new Junior School Block named after my father, who served as principal of HPS, makes this occasion especially meaningful for our family,” he said.

Watsa added that he was pleased to see the school continue to develop while retaining its values and traditions.
