Karimnagar: Police in Jagtial district have busted a honey-trap gang that allegedly blackmailed wealthy businessmen and political leaders using private photographs and videos. Acting on a complaint lodged by a local real estate developer, police took six persons into custody, including a young woman allegedly used as bait and two main suspects identified as Raju and Shekar.

According to police sources, the gang operated from Metpally and Ibrahimpatnam mandals and primarily targeted high-profile individuals, especially real estate developers. The suspects allegedly used a young woman from Metpally to lure victims into private settings.
Once the victims were placed in compromising situations, Raju and Shekar are said to have secretly recorded videos and taken photographs. The footage was then used to threaten the victims, with the gang demanding large sums of money to prevent the material from being made public.
The racket came to light after a real estate businessman from Metpally refused to succumb to the gang’s demands of ₹10 lakh and instead approached the police. During the investigation, police examined the mobile phones of the suspects.
Officers reportedly found photos and videos of several prominent businessmen and political figures from the Jagtial and Metpally areas. Police sources said the main accused also claimed to be followers of a prominent local political leader in an attempt to intimidate their victims.
A case has been registered, and police are expected to hold a press conference soon to disclose further details. While several victims are reportedly reluctant to come forward due to social stigma, police have urged all those targeted by the gang to cooperate with the investigation.
