Hyderabad: With rising summer temperatures and the depletion of groundwater levels in the city, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director K Ashok Reddy appealed to people to adhere to water conservation measures and avoid wasting water. He urged every family in the city to conserve at least 20 per cent of their water usage, stating that significant amounts can be saved simply by making small changes to daily habits.

An online review meeting was held on Sunday to discuss the summer action plan and tanker management. Presently, overall tanker bookings this summer have not seen a significant increase compared to last year. However, bookings at filling stations in certain specific areas have risen, particularly at Manikonda, Banjara Hills, Srinagar Colony, Hafeezpet and Puppalguda.

Directions have been issued to officials to implement an action plan to bring pending water tanker requests to zero within the next two days. To execute this task, HMWS&SB officials are making special arrangements at filling stations by increasing water supply volumes and extending supply hours. In addition, filling stations experiencing low demand are being utilised to fulfil excess demand from other areas.

Pending requests have been significantly reduced by supplying water tankers during night hours, according to HMWS&SB officials. Employees working the night shift have been recommended for special allowances, while arrangements are being made to supply tankers to commercial consumers during the night.

The HMWS&SB managing director expressed optimism that, with such focused attention, it would be possible to deliver tankers within 12 hours of booking.
