HMWS&SB Plans Ahead to Ensure Uninterrupted Summer Water Supply

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director Ashok Reddy has directed officials to prepare an advance action plan to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply during the coming summer.
At a review meeting held at the HMWS&SB head office in Khairatabad on Wednesday, Reddy, along with joint managing director Mayank Mittal, reviewed summer preparedness, the Singur-Manjeera contingency plan, restoration of power borewells, filling stations, network connectivity, industrial and bulk water supply and reuse of treated wastewater.
Ashok Reddy directed officials to identify areas dependent on Singur and Manjeera water sources and prepare area-wise contingency plans specifying the alternative source, route and quantity of water that can be supplied during emergencies.
He asked officials to assess interconnections, junctions, valves and pipelines required for alternative supply and keep them ready in advance.
Areas facing high summer demand, low pressure and those located at the tail end of the distribution network should be identified and proposals prepared for new pipelines and strengthening of the network, he said.
The MD also directed officials to focus on preventing water wastage during summer and prepare measures to identify and control unnecessary wastage and misuse of drinking water for non-domestic purposes.
Awareness should precede action against deliberate wastage, while repeated violations should invite action under existing rules, he said.
On filling stations, Ashok Reddy directed officials to assess existing capacity, tanker movement and daily demand and identify areas requiring additional filling points.
