Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday said that Telangana would soon unveil its own education policy on the lines of the National Education Policy (NEP). A committee has been constituted to draft the policy, he said.

Speaking during a meeting with Himachal Pradesh education minister Rohit Thakur here, Revanth Reddy outlined plans to introduce pre-primary education in government schools to strengthen the foundation years and ensure that public schools were on par with private institutions.

The Himachal Pradesh delegation is studying the initiatives being implemented in Telangana. Revanth Reddy said the Telangana government had embarked on wide-ranging reforms to strengthen the public education system.

The Chief Minister explained the structural and policy-level changes introduced by the Telangana government, with a focus on equity, access and quality. He briefed the delegation on the Young India Integrated Residential Schools programme, under which residential schools are being constructed on 25-acre campuses each at a cost of ₹200 crore. These institutions are being developed on the lines of mini-universities to provide integrated education for students from SC, ST, BC and minority communities at a single location.

To improve enrolment in rural areas, the Chief Minister said the government was considering providing transport facilities to bring pre-primary children to schools. He further noted that Industrial Training Institutes in the State are being upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres, with one such centre planned in every Assembly constituency.

The Himachal Pradesh minister expressed keen interest in the integrated residential schools model and requested a report on the initiative. He also appreciated the Chief Minister’s vision for revitalising the government education system.
