High Court Judge Justice Priyadarsini Passes Away

 Hyderabad: Justice Maturi Girija Priyadarsini of the Telangana High Court passed away on Sunday, following a long illness. She was 61. She is survived by her husband Dr K. Vijay Kumar, a retired public sector employee, and their sons Nikhil and Akhil. The last rites will be held on Monday at the Mahaprasthanam at Jubilee Hills.

Justice Priyadarsini’s father Maturi Appa Rao had worked as a commercial tax officer in the Telangana region. She was married soon after her Intermediate. She completed her Master of Arts in sociology, public administration and political science from Andra University and her three-year law course from NBM Law College, Visakhapatnam, in 1995.

She completed her post graduation in law (LLM) in labour and industrial law from Andhra University in 1997 where she stood first in Constitutional Law. Enrolled as an advocate on the rolls of Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh on September 1995, she joined the office of P. Uma Bala for about seven years. She practiced for more than 10 years at Visakhapatnam and dealt with civil, criminal, labour law and matrimonial cases. She actively appeared in pro-bono cases referred by the District Legal Services Authority of Vishakhapatnam.

Selected by direct recruitment, Justice Priyadarsini joined judicial services as Additional District Judge on November 3, 2008. She was Principal District Judge in Ongole, Adilabad and Karimnagar from August 2016 to March 2022. During her tenure as Principal District Judge in Prakasam and at Adilabad of undivided AP, the District Legal Service Authority topped the National Legal Service Authority rankings continuously for three terms, 2016-19.
