Heritage Dept Signs MoU with Iran Centre to Digitise Archives

The entire cost of digitisation and conservation will be borne by the Iranian partner.

Hyderabad: In a move to preserve Telangana’s cultural and historical legacy, the department of heritage on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Noor International Microfilm Centre, Iran Cultural House, under the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, New Delhi, to digitise and conserve rare heritage collections, which include 737 manuscripts, 3,091 paintings, 14,522 library books and 101 archival Dastawazats.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Arjun Rao Kuthadi, director of the department of heritage, and Dr Mehdi Khajeh Piri, director of Noor International Microfilm Centre, along with senior officials from both institutions, including Dr Nagaraju, deputy director and Raju, special officer.
The collaboration aims to protect and preserve valuable manuscripts, archival records, paintings and historic books maintained by the heritage department. The entire cost of digitisation and conservation will be borne by the Iranian partner. As part of the initiative, specialists from the Noor international microfilm centre will carry out digitisation, cataloguing, indexing, restoration and long-term preservation of heritage materials.
