Heavy Rains Paralyse Road, Rail, Bus Services in Telangana
SCR said 69 trains were cancelled, 29 diverted, 18 partially cancelled and three rescheduled — a total of 119 service disruptions. Refunds were issued for all cancellations, and passengers willing to return to their origin were accommodated.
Hyderabad: The flooding following record rain at Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Medak and Nirmal districts disrupted transport on a massive scale, with National Highway 44 blocked at multiple points, bus services suspended, and train operations severely hit.
National Highway 44, a key national artery, was shut down after breaches at eight locations. Traffic between Hyderabad and the northern districts was diverted from Toopran. “There were breaches at eight points in Kamareddy district on Wednesday morning, which halted traffic.
Water overflow was also reported at two locations in Medak and Medchal, but receded by evening. Minor damages were repaired and movement was restored slowly by Thursday, 3 pm. “Around 40,000 passenger car units move on this highway every day,” said Srinivas Rao, project director, Kamareddy, National Highways Authority. Authorities deployed heavy machinery and material on a war footing to restore traffic.
The TGSRTC operated only 33 per cent of services, with the remainder suspended. Statewide, disruptions across 11 districts affected 64 routes, leading to the cancellation of 297 services covering 81,624 route kilometres. The corporation said alternative routes were arranged wherever possible for passenger convenience.
The South Central Railway (SCR) reported breaches on tracks between Bhiknur and Tadmadla in the Medchal-Nizamabad section and in the Akanapet–Medak section. In Kamareddy, floodwaters washed away a track, forcing large-scale cancellations.
