Heavy Rains Bring Relief to Farmers in Warangal, Cause Havoc in Karimnagar, Sircilla

Farmers have prepared their fields and many have already planted seeds.

 Karimnagar: After over a month of dry weather, heavy rainfall has lashed erstwhile Warangal and Karimnagar districts during the past two days, bringing the much-needed relief to farmers and people living in urban areas suffering from heat.

Farmers have prepared their fields and many have already planted seeds. They are hoping for more rains in the coming days to ensure a good harvest this Kharif season.

In Mulugu district, Venkatapuram mandal received the highest rainfall of 235.3 mm, followed by Mangapet 140 mm and Eturnagaram mandal 114.2 mm.

With the level of Godavari River rising due to heavy rains, Mulugu district collector T. S. Divakar inspected the water flow at Dodla and Kondai bridges in Eturnagaram mandal. He said with continuous rainfall over the past two days and Godavari overflowing, temporary roads at many places got washed away. Essential commodities have been readied and medical officers alerted in case of any emergency. One boat is on standby and two more are expected to arrive by evening, the collector said.

In Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, Mogullapally mandal received the highest rainfall of 86.8 mm, followed by Regonda 65.8 mm. In Mahabubabad district, Kothaguda mandal received the highest 75.6 mm of rainfall. Gangaram mandal followed with 73.2 mm of rainfall.

In Warangal district, Nallabelli mandal received highest rainfall of 72.2 mm, followed by Duggondi mandal 62.2 mm, while in Hanamkonda, Kamalapur mandal received 68.5 mm of rainfall, followed by Nadikuda mandal 56.4 mm.

In Karimnagar district, Manakondur mandal received the highest rainfall of about 145 mm, followed by 126 mm in Karimnagar city. Residents living in areas like RTC workshop, Mancherial Chowrasta, Kisan Nagar, Housing Board Colony, Jyothi Nagar, Sharma Nagar and Sai Nagar faced severe difficulties, as rainwater entered their homes. Cellars of several apartments got flooded, submerging vehicles parked inside.

In Sircilla district, Chandurthi mandal received the highest rainfall of about 50.6 mm, followed by 44.1 mm in Rudrangi mandal. Students at the Anganwadi centre and Mandal Parishad Primary School in Dosala Gudem colony in Gambhiraopet mandal are facing significant challenges. They are wading through dirty water to reach the school. This has been the case every monsoon.

Traffic came to a standstill between Ramalakshmanapalle and Padira villages in Mustabad mandal due to the overflowing Manair Vagu.

The Meteorological department has issued a statement predicting heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of 30–40 km/h in isolated areas of Mulugu, Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla and Jagtial districts over the next 24 hours. People are advised to follow the guidelines issued by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
